About Us
The Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute (AFVI) was founded in 2003 to provide high quality education, training and technical assistance on the broad range of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) available in today's marketplace. A non-profit organization, AFVI was formed to fill the gap between the U.S. policy push of hydrogen powered vehicles as the answer to foreign oil dependence and environmental degradation and the reality that commercially available hydrogen powered vehicles will not be available for 15 years or more.
Filling this gap requires educating the public and, in particular fleet managers, on how to deploy any of the broad range of AFVs that are available today to meet environmental and regulatory pressures until such time that hydrogen powered vehicles become commercially available. Natural gas, propane, ethanol, electric and bio-diesel powered vehicles already account in North America for hundreds of thousands of the light and heavy duty vehicles on the road today and number in the several millions on the road worldwide.
These currently available alternative fuels are the answer for bridging the gap between today and the years it will take to make hydrogen powered vehicles available commercially. |
